Why Dancing?

“If I can’t dance, it’s not my revolution!” – Emma Goldman

Words to live by! At Allyship we believe social justice needs to be fun, life-affirming, joyful and with lots of glitter. Ok, glitter is optional. Movement, whatever that is for you, music, costumes and possibly a disco ball is what this fun-raiser is all about! So bring your courage, money and sense of justice to Allyship’s first Annual Dancing with the Starz Dance-a-thon. Dance all night to win the LGBTQ Economic Justice fight!

What to Expect:

• A full 6 hours of dancing! Registration starts at 6pm.
• There will be 10 minute breaks every hour.
• For teams your need at least two people on the dance floor at all times (outside of breaks).
• Three local DJ’s from the social justice community playing hip-hop, house, R&B, funk, disco, pop and more.
• All ages event and wheel chair accessible.
• Food and drink available for a small donation.
• Dancers who will ask for pledges will receive a pledge form and ‘How to Get Pledges’ Guide.

What are you Dancing for?

Dance and support W.E.R.Q. (Work, Economics and Resources for Queer Youth and Young Adults) Summer Institute for LGBTQ marginalized youth and young adults and help prevent LGBTQ youth homelessness through a 8-week course utilizing art to teach leadership development, life-skills and civic engagement.
Dance to provide bus tokens for LGBTQ marginalized youth/young adults to attend Allyship’s free W.E.R.Q. Summer Institute.
Dance to ensure LGBTQ marginalized youth/young adults receive a stipend for participating in the W.E.R.Q. Summer Institute. This supports low-income youth and young adults to earn some money while learning about LGBTQ social justice and history.
Dance to support Allyship’s LGBTQ Intergenerational project to facilitate deeper intergenerational conversations, build a strong advocacy community against youth and senior ageism and end isolation across the generations.
Dance because you believe in LGBTQ Economic Justice!
