Seattle Hempfest and Joy Beckerman Maher are proud to present an evening of fascinating industrial hemp awareness! In celebration of the 5th Annual Hemp History Week, we will screen the new, award-winning documentary Bringing it Home. Joy is the President of the WA Hemp Industries Association and Hemp Ace International, and she will have her entire Hands-On Hemp exhibit (including all fibers, hempcrete, hemp bio-plastics and textiles) available to explore, touch and feel at this event! Joy will also moderate a panel discussion directly after the film particularly focused on how to solve Washington's conundrum of having no legal industrial hemp cultivation on its books, despite the widespread misperception that it is legal here.

More industrial hemp fiber, seed and oil is exported to the U.S. than to any other country, and American consumers are purchasing over $500 million in hemp products annually. The recent Farm Bill provision for hemp research and pilot programs has sparked national media awareness and conversation about hemp. But what’s preventing WA and the U.S. from fully joining 31 other industrialized nations that allow its farmers to grow this beneficial crop? Bringing it Home triumphantly explores the question of why a crop with so many versatile benefits cannot be farmed in the U.S. by exploring its history, industries and current farming legalization efforts. Hemp building materials and hemp seed nutrition are highlighted, along with the hemp industry in Canada, Europe and South Africa.
