Take Warning Presents

Pigeon John (L.A.)

Pigeon John hails from sunny Southern California, Inglewood to be exact. It's easy to assume his signature blend of wit, charisma and undeniable stage presence is a fortunate gift (and it is), but let's be real. Everyone starts somewhere. Pigeon John cut his teeth in the early 90s at the legendary Good Life Cafe, spitting rhymes on the same stage with then fledgling, now established artists like Freestyle Fellowship, Kurupt, The Pharcyde and Jurassic 5. Good Life open-mic nights became PJ's ritual. It was the perfect environment to hone his performance and delivery skills amongst discerning peers.

Time at the Good Life gave way to time spent at local venues and in the studio with friends like Brainwash Projects and LA Symphony. His appearances on the underground classics, The Rise and Fall of Brainwash Project and Composition 1 from Brainwash Projects and LA Symphony, respectively, put him on the radar as one to watch.

In 2002, Pigeon John released his solo debut Pigeon John Is Clueless, selling over 11,000 copies with no distribution. He followed up with Pigeon John Is Dating Your Sister and Pigeon John Sings The Blues. The albums garnered significant praise landing him features in Spin's "Next Big Things" issue, URB's "Next 100" and Mic Check in The Source. PJ's infectious tunes have been used by XBOX for the games "Project Gotham" and "NBA Inside Drive 2002," as well as the major motion picture "Get Over It." John has also performed and appeared in print and television ads for both Levi's and Nestle Crunch.

Touring the nation 8 times over, Pigeon John has earned his veteran status, using a clever balance of self-deprecating humor and confidence to rock any crowd, any stage. His boundless energy seduces crowds making ladies swoon and fellas embrace their geek appeal.

Enamored by PJ's infectious energy and raw talent exhibited on the Cali Comm tour, Lyrics Born brought Pigeon John into the Quannum fold in 2005. His Quannum Projects debut Pigeon John And The Summertime Pool Party (his best album yet!) hits stores September 12, 2006.

Grayskul (Seattle)

As part of the Pacific Northwest indie rap collective Oldominion, Grayskul made a name for themselves regionally with futuristic sci-fi raps over gloomy, innovative production from the likes of Mr. Hill and Smoke before catching the attention of Rhymesayers Entertainment while touring with Eyedea & Abilities. Opening for Atmosphere on the At It Again Tour in 2005, emcees Onry Ozzborn (aka Reason) and JFK (aka Recluse) took to the stage with aliens draped over their shoulders and televisions set to static on either side of the turntables. From the early days of their existence, it was clear that Grayskul was on another plane.

A host of tour-only releases paired with RSE albums Deadlivers and Bloody Radio put Grayskul on the national map, with indie rap icons such as Slug, Aesop Rock, Mr. Lif, Cage and Pigeon John making appearances. Occupying the roles of superheroes and vampires on the aforementioned records, Onry and JFK combined seemingly disparate elements of abstract, goth, horrorcore, and free associative lyricism into something fresh. “Prom Quiz”, from Grayskul’s RSE debut Deadlivers, married their outsider worldview with accessible narratives and catchy production. In 2009 they released a joint effort with Chicago producer and longtime Qwel collaborator Maker under the name Graymaker, before taking some time apart to focus on a variety of projects such as Dark Time Sunshine (Onry), Building Wings on the Way Down, and Th3rdz (JFK).

The time off from Grayskul gave Onry and JFK the opportunity to polish their respective blades before stepping back into the booth to record Zenith, their first release on Fake Four, Inc. The entire album was conceived, written, and recorded in Momentum Studios in Seattle under the watchful ear of sound engineer Zebulon Dak. Zenith finds Onry and JFK at their storytelling finest, examining school shootings, hollow social media existence, fatherhood, and the false allure of the club under explosive production handled by Aesop Rock, Smoke, Void Pedal, and Moodie Black. Raekwon starts the show in classic Wu fashion with a spoken intro, and the record also features guest shots from Aesop, Solilla, Reva DeVito, and Fake Four labelmate Terra Lopez of Sister Crayon. True to its title, the 17-track Zenith is the masterfully produced and executed crown jewel of Grayskul’s decade in the indie rap game.

The world is once again safe from treachery. Grayskul's on the clock.

Rafael Vigilantics (Portland)

Rafael Vigilantics has put in the hard work and the hard times and I'll be damned if it doesn't show him come thru the other side to light up for us. His lyrics sound more like a confession then a hip-hop song. His music sounds more like an ominous war-drum than a rap track. His cadence more like a motorcycle ride thru the desert than a steady flow. His tone is fierce yet pleading. Think Iggy Pop forces Roy Orbison to rap at gunpoint while Bukowski watches. If you like P.O.S and Aesop Rock chances are you'll like Rafael Vigilantics, if you don't like hip-hop at all chances are it wont change how you feel about him. He doesn't sound like much of anything we've ever heard before, self described as "the noise before the sound" and "SEARCH-AND-DESTROY-HIP-HOP."
Listen to his title track "Unforgiven" from "The Orgasm of a Ghost" for a good taste of murder and the bad life sung to a drunken blues swagger. Listen to the punk-rooted anthem "Still Fighting" from his first record "Bury Me Standing" to hear how he spent his years between the railroad tracks and the wrecking ball. Listen to "The Darkness" from his newest release "The Spade Tapes" and you will find yourself in a circus full of love, drugs and kidnappings in Mexico. Whatever you do just make sure you really listen. There's a lot of story here and its a heartfelt worthwhile ride.
His soon to be released record "The Spade Tapes" has us anticipating what happens next. He started recording it in Austin, fled to Portland, and is now posting bail in LA, a trifecta sure not to fail. Featuring artists such as Onry Ozzborn, Luck-One and Mic Crenshaw. Lets see what direction this all goes, Im guessing true north.

A.S.H.E.S. the Chosen (Seattle)

Seattle-bred emcee A.S.H.E.S the Chosen, along with his band April 12th, create a soulful, Hip hop meets folk revival music mosaic. What makes this noteworthy is that he is able to do this while simultaneously intertwining touches of Pop sentimentality through catchy choruses. Though laid back in his demeanor, A.S.H.E.S excites the crowd with an energetic and commanding stage presence, elaborate wordplay, and deep personal narratives told through his rhymes. His band, April 12th, which mixes Hip hop with Funk and Jazz, is both entertainingly nostalgic and enjoyably fresh to Hip hop heads and throwback Soul music lovers alike. His current lead single "Tears In Your Eyes", which tackles the issue of domestic violence through a three-part narrative, has established A.S.H.E.S as a creative and innovative songwriter, while also gaining national and international radio play as one of CMJ's Top Hip Hop Adds.

Fresh off the regional success of his most recent project, The Growth: My ENDtroduction, as well as the success of the official Seattle Seahawks' anthem, "Loud & Proud (12th Man!)", which he co-wrote, A.S.H.E.S the Chosen has been featured on iHeart Radio, KJR FM/AM, Northwest Cable News, Seahawks Fone Zone (with Chris Egan), Komo News, King 5 News, and Evening Magazine.

In preparation of the upcoming project Id, Ego, Superego, which is scheduled for release in this Spring, A.S.H.E.S the Chosen has embarked on a promotional tour which has included performances at The Real Radio Show in New York alongside Billy Mira, at the House of Blues in Los Angeles, and at the Red Gorilla Music Festival at South by Southwest (SXSW).
