HOLIDAY HEART
(Robert Townsend; 2000; US; 100 min.)
Adapted from Cheryl West’s play which premiered at the Seattle Repertory Theatre in 1994, HOLIDAY HEART is a classic drama filmed in the Pacific Northwest that reminds us about the importance of chosen family. After losing his police officer lover, church-going drag queen Holiday Heart (Ving Rhames) meets 12-year-old Niki and her drug-addicted mother, Wanda (Alfre Woodard). Holiday finds relief from heartache and a renewed sense of purpose when he steps in as a parent to Niki and welcomes the two women into his life. But things start to head south when Wanda becomes romantically involved with a drug dealer, and it may destroy everything they’ve built together.
Screening hosted by Mark “Mom” Finley, a local drag icon and featured performer in the film.
