The Stranger Presents: The 10th Annual Genius Awards

Wed, Jun 6, 2012 at 8pm

The 10th Annual Genius Awards will be the most memorable, epic arts event in Seattle this September. All 15 of our nominees are worthy of being called a Genius, but only 5 will leave with the $5,000 grant offered in their category. With sweeping new arrangements of this year's music finalists performed by Seattle Rock Orchestra, an original cello piece by Lori Goldston, hilarious and creative award presentations by Lynn Shelton, Jeffrey Mitchell, Sarah Rudinoff, Susanna Welbourne, and Jim Woodring, plus a dance piece created for the Genius Awards by Velocity creative resident Kate Wallich, you are guaranteed to see the most talented artists in the city at The Genius Awards.

This year we are joined by a 50-piece live orchestra!! That's right. Seattle Rock Orchestra plays new music honoring the 2012 Genius Nominees and a few pop classics to delight the weird art-lovers at our party.

Seattle's most fantastic performers, writers, poets, dancers, visual artists, filmmakers and more will fight to the death for the honor of winning this year's coveted GENIUS AWARD. Just kidding. Really they will be selected by secret ballot over the summer by former Genius winners and we will announce them LIVE from the stage of The Moore theater.

Doors are at 7:30pm for an 8-10pm show featuring a dance performance by Kate Wallich, film clips, live music, and the most dramatic awards show ever with presenters Lynn Shelton, Jeffry Mitchell, Susanna Welbourne, Sarah Rudinoff, and Jim Woodring.

Attire is a combination of old-school Hollywood glam mixed with punchy, Seattle arts funk!
