Climate Science on Tap presents Going to Extremes: Is It Climate Change or Just Bad Weather?

Tue, Jan 30, 2018 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm

  • All ages welcome. Free event. Food truck.
This event has passed.

Will floods, fires, and droughts be the new normal? How will people and wildlife cope? And how do these extreme weather events affect public dialogue about climate change? A group of esteemed researchers will examine the relationship between extreme weather and our changing climate with engaging presentations and an informative panel discussion.

Come early for a good seat and a bite to eat from the Cycle Dogs food truck.  Enjoy the conversation around the tables, while waiting for the panelists to begin!

Panelists:

  • Rachel White, Ph.D. UW Dept of Atmospheric Sciences
  • Joshua Lawler, Ph.D. UW School of Environment and Forest Sciences
  • James Rufo-Hill, M.U.P., Climate Adaptation Specialist, Seattle Public Utilities
  • John Cook, Ph.D., Cognitive Science, Center for Climate Change Communication, George Mason University, Virginia.  See background below* to appreciate how fortunate we are to have him join this panel!

In 2007, he founded Skeptical Science, a website which won the 2011 Australian Museum Eureka Prize for the Advancement of Climate Change Knowledge and 2016 Friend of the Planet Award from the National Center for Science Education. John co-authored the college textbooks Climate Change: Examining the Facts and Climate Change Science: A Modern Synthesis and the book Climate Change Denial: Heads in the Sand. John first began researching climate misinformation after getting into arguments about global warming with his father-in-law.
