Storytelling with Crankies and Shadows Workshop
11/16/24: 12p-2p, 12/13/24: 12p-2p
Join us for a 1.5 hour storytelling with Crankies and Shadows for youth ages 8-17. The workshop will consist of an all-ages lecture and presentation of his crankie work created for the 2022 Bellwether Art Residency, led by puppeteer Dustin Curtis. He will screen the short Bellevue-focused works he created, cover his simple process of creation and storytelling, and then demonstrate a live crankie. Dustin will also demonstrate basic shadow puppetry techniques for the audience. Participants will be encouraged to explore shadow puppetry and use creative thinking skills by constructing simple puppets and experimenting with the lights.
This workshop is recommended for youth 8-17 years of age and we request a parent be present for anyone under the age of 12. This workshop is presented in english only.
What is a crankie? A crankie is a moving illuminated backdrop that can be used to tell a story through shadow puppetry and the use of various materials.
This workshop is generously funded by a 2024 City of Bellevue Eastside Arts Partnership Support grant. Additional support for cultural access is provided by a 2023 4Culture Public Free Access Grant.
*Due to the weather impacts of the cyclone we will make the shorts available for on-demand viewing from 11/29/24-12/9/24 on triviapuppet.com*
These workshops are limited to 30 participants per session.
